We are happy to announce an Introduction to the Wood Lathe taught by Ky Faubion.
Users will take a square piece of wood and will learn how to turn it into a wine stop or wooden top in this 2 hour class. Ky will be teaching Lathe safety and technique. By the end of the class you will be able to safely use a Lathe and will be able to Lathe your own projects on your own.
You will also learn a little history of the Lathe, and how to use a small and medium sized lathes.
Hailing from Southern Oregon, Ky moved to the Bay Area in 2007. Shortly after becoming a self employed dog walker and business owner in San Francisco, he found his first makerspace in 2011 while attending the Maker Faire. “Tech Shop” became his home for the next six years. After learning and teaching just about all the curriculum over that time due to missing instructors leaving the space, he became a true veteran by filling in for as many classes as he possibly could successfully training over 1,000 people of all ages and abilities. He then went onto other spaces to share his tribal knowledge at places like Tesla in Fremont and the PiShop program at Google HQ in Mountain View. He loves originality and spends a lot of his waking hours brainstorming about the next fun project; especially with his friends at 180 Studios.
