Santa Rosa, CA—180 Studios is excited to announce our Meet the Makers event happening every third Thursday of every month. This month’s Meet the Makers is on Thursday June 20th, from 5-8pm and is free and open to the public. This event series will highlight 180 Studios as a hub for creative members and volunteers as well as showcasing many exciting projects from the Sonoma County maker community.
At this Meet the Makers we will be hosting our second art exhibition opening. This exhibition will run from June 20- September 6. This show will feature contemporary textile artworks created by artists Bud Snow, Christa Lynne, Livy Levings, and Sable Rose Regalia. Textile arts have been an every day fundamental part of human life since the beginning of civilization, from the clothes we wear to the objects that decorate our homes. Textile arts is the use of synthetic, plant or animal fibers and it is an art that can be both beautiful and useful. The methods and materials used to make them have expanded enormously, while the functions of textiles have remained the same. Textiles were originally more of a utilitarian use, rather than serving a solely aesthetic function. And while this is still the case today, visionary creatives have helped to reinvent the meaning and purpose of textile arts.
The mission of 180 Studios is to provide a dynamic environment for creative collaboration that supports the teaching, learning, and practicing of industrial and creative arts, as well as engineering and design. 180 Studios provides space and equipment to meet the needs of hobbyists as well as those engaged in income- producing activities. The building provides ample and diverse spaces for workshops on a wide range of topics such as metalworking, fiber arts, and robotics, and is an ideal setting for maker-related community events.
