Santa Rosa, CA- October 8, 2018 — 180 Studios is excited to announce our Meet the Makers Mixer event happening every third Thursday of every month. This month’s Meet the Makers is on Thursday October 18th, from 4-8pm and is free and open to the public. This event series will highlight 180 Studios as a hub for creative members and volunteers as well as showcasing many exciting projects from the Sonoma County maker community.
In September, 180 Studios was given the opportunity to offer assistance in the design and creation of a large scale parametric shelf in support of The Museum of Sonoma County, and local artist and professor Gregory Roberts. After the destruction of last year’s Sonoma County wildfire, ceramicist Gregory Roberts launched the Sonoma Ash Project, wherein he turned ash into meaningful ceramics. Mr. Robert’s Sonoma Ash Project consists of over 140 handmade vessels, each with ashes donated by an individual who lost their home to last year’s tragic fires. For October’s Meet the Makers Mixer, we will talk with Gregory about the project, his practice, and how making can help us process the extremes in life.
The mission of 180 Studios is to provide a dynamic environment for creative collaboration thatsupports the teaching, learning, and practicing of industrial and creative arts, as well as engineering and design. 180 Studios provides space and equipment to meet the needs of hobbyists as well as those engaged in income-producing activities. The building provides ample and diverse spaces for workshops on a wide range of topics such as metalworking, fiber arts, and robotics, and is an ideal setting for maker-related community events.
