This two hour, one on one session is a great introduction to the wood lathe and the principles of the art of woodturning. Students will get an overview of the machine and tools as well as material selection and setting up a project. With individual attention and guidance students will begin to develop the skills associated with creating beautiful work.
Materials: Material costs will vary from $0-20 depending on how students would like to approach the lesson. Materials can be purchased from Sam the day of, or students may bring their own dry stock for use. A great place to purchase high quality turning stock is Mount Storm http://www.mountstorm.com/ but wood can be found at most of your local home improvement retailers.
Prerequisites: Experience in a woodshop is suggested but not necessary. Please be sure to wear closed toed shoes and be prepared to tie long hair back and remove any jewelry.
